Position Title: Senior Plant Layout / Piping Designer
Reports To:
Lead Mechanical Engineer – on design projects
Design Supervisor - on functional matters
Position description – Purpose: Development of layout studies, design drawings and documents for Greenfield and Brownfield sites for major FEED Projects.
Able to provide training and guidance to team members
Qualifications: A relevant Engineering Diploma or Degree
Technical Abilities:
• Has a strong background in FEED, detailed design and EPC projects and deliverables, as well as piping, structural, electrical, instrumentation and P&ID knowledge.
• Has an ability to develop Plant Layout from a blank canvas and to add definition where a high degree of uncertainty still exists.
• Preferred experience with PDMS (3D design) although an excellent demonstrable plant layout pedigree may override this.
• Experience and knowledge of Shell’s DEP’s
• Knowledgeable of codes, standards and regulatory guidelines that apply to the design disciplines.
• Knowledgeable with designing industry related piping deliverables (skids, equipment general arrangements, isometrics, vessel sketches, pipe supports, Weight & CG’s, etc)
• Is proficient in the use of human factors engineering guidelines and HSE best practices
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently with little guidance or supervision.
• Knowledgeable of the interface points between design disciplines.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills are highly desirable c/w a good command of the English language.
Roles & Accountabilities:
• Work closely with discipline project engineers/designers and other discipline engineers in the delivery of project engineering/construction deliverables, quality control drawings and overall project support.
• Develop designs in PDMS and (new) drawings in electronic format (AutoCad).
• Implement hand marked-up changes to drawings.
• Maintain standard drawing templates.
• Provide quality assurance reviews and detailed checking support.
• Maintain and monitor drawing development progress.
• Meet project commitments and deliver to schedule.
• Identify & implement process improvement to reduce cycle time & cost.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

• Manage variations in workload, whilst always producing high quality deliverables.
• Be a team player where recognition of team performance as a whole is a greater priority than projecting individual contribution.
• Work effectively with diverse, multi-cultural teams, peers, stakeholders and customers.
• Work effectively in a matrix organisation and handle multiple reporting relationships and multiple responsibilities.
Experience and Qualifications required:
• Minimum 12 years experience in the oil and gas industry with FEED experience on major capital projects and development of layout from a blank canvas
• Minimum of 5 years experience with 3D drawing systems (e.g. PDMS) although an excellent demonstrable plant layout pedigree may override this with subsequent intensive PDMS training provided.
